Skin detox: What is it and how to do it

woman looking in mirror To live happily and healthy, you shouldn’t forget to treat yourself to good things. Food, love, career fulfillment, and friendships are all essential in finding contentment. However, besides allowing yourself to receive the good stuff, it’s also crucial to determine the bad and to learn to avoid it. Toxicity can come from anywhere, whether people or chemicals. Toxic relationships cause emotional and physical pain, while environmental toxins can lead to serious medical conditions. How Toxicity Can Affect You No person can live life to the fullest without a sound mind, which is why everyone must take care of their mental health. When you constantly spend time with toxic people, it will be nearly impossible to have a positive disposition, not to mention avoid mental illnesses. Toxic relationships can lead to feelings of helplessness, anxiety, fear, low self-esteem, and paranoia. For the sake of your inner peace, you must know when to cut off from certain people. Meanwhile, toxic chemicals will be harmful to your physical health once they come into contact with your body. An overabundance of toxic chemicals will damage your enzymes, preventing hemoglobin production and lowering protection against oxidated stress. Luckily, your skin defends your body against toxins. However, it’s the liver, kidneys, immune system, kidneys, and respiratory system that do most of your body’s detoxification. To bring your skin back to optimal condition, it’s also crucial to take care of your skin. Taking Care of Your Skin The skin deserves a lot of credit—it protects the body against germs, enables touch sensations, and regulates body temperature. Unfortunately, the skin is the most overlooked organ. Although many use skincare products to fight pimples, reduce aging and keep other skin issues at bay, the other areas of the body don’t get much love. Having healthy skin is more than just having a clear and smooth complexion; your skin must also be free of toxins, impurities, and dead skin cells. Skincare is more than just achieving outer beauty—it’s vital to detox the body and balance hormones. What Is Skin Detox? While some detox diets can help you shed a few pounds, skin detoxing works deep beneath the skin’s layers, causing cleansing, brightening, and hydrating effects. Your normal gentle cleansers, toners, and moisturizers do a good enough job of washing off surface dirt, but you’ll need a skin detox to get rid of the skin buildup.  Through the skin detoxification process, your skin becomes protected from the outside. Your skin will be purged of congestion and dirt, restoring its pH levels. A skin detox will revitalize and renew your skin, reverting it to its previous condition or even a better state than it was before.  With a few steps, you can boost the skin detoxification process, pushing the toxins out more effectively to keep your skin and the rest of your body healthy! The Skin Detoxification Process At first, skin detox may sound complex and overwhelming, but once you know the steps, you’ll find that it’s pretty simple to do. Follow these tips to find out how to incorporate skin detox into your daily routine. Stay Hydrated When it comes to flushing toxins from your body, water is your friend! Drinking at least ten glasses of water a day will not only keep your liver and kidneys in good shape but also lubricate and cushion your joints. Drinking water also helps improve your skin. The more hydrated you are the more elastic your skin will be, which means the fewer wrinkles and fine lines you’ll have as you grow older. The more water you drink, the better you’ll feel on the outside and inside! Make Cleansing a Habit Cleansing is the most important part of skincare, as it removes every trace of dirt, pollution, excess oil, and unwanted skin cells. To cleanse thoroughly and gently, it’s crucial to double cleanse.  While your standard facial wash can remove some dirt, it can’t get them all. Using an oil or cream cleanser first is excellent in eliminating any stubborn impurities on the surface of the skin, ensuring that no impurities are left on the skin. After double cleansing, you’ll immediately feel that your skin is cleaner and ready for the next steps of the detoxification process. Exfoliate Gently Of course, cleansing alone can’t get rid of all the impurities—you need to exfoliate your skin to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. You can exfoliate the skin using a granular substance, chemical, or exfoliation tool. The face is a delicate area, so it’s recommended to stick to chemical and granular substance exfoliators only. All skin types require exfoliation, but make sure to use the right kind to avoid microtears and instead encourage healthy skin turnover. Steam Your Pores Steaming your face not only feels nice but it also contributes  to a clean complexion. Exposing your skin to steam allows the ingredients of the succeeding products to penetrate the pores and clear out as much grime as possible.  If you don’t have a steamer at home, simply pour hot water in a bowl, hover your face above it, and drape a towel over your head. Final Thoughts The condition of your skin isn’t everything, but having a healthy and smooth complexion certainly makes for a more comfortable and enjoyable life! Healthy skin leads to happy days—when you take care of yourself from the inside out, you can look and feel your most beautiful for the years to come. Article by Katherine Pierce
