Frownies remains a family-owned business with a rich history, can you tell us a bit about the story behind the brand?

FROWNIES were created in 1889 after Margaret Kroesen discovered her daughter Alice, a concert pianist, had developed unsightly frown lines. FROWNIES, the ORIGINAL wrinkle-smoothing patch (sometimes called wrinkle tape, wrinkle stickers or wrinkle strips) have been worn at night to smooth and soften expression lines for five generations of the same family!

The secret to smoothing wrinkles with facial patches was a well-kept beauty secret between Broadway + Hollywood stars and makeup artists for generations. From this rich history until today, FROWNIES stand the test of time by effectively reducing signs of aging and minimizing expression lines.

Your business has been helmed by a long line of women entrepreneurs, what’s been the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a female entrepreneur?

In the beauty arena being a woman only helps the brand. My mother ran the company for 60 years, at her time the success of a woman in a small business was an asset to her image as well.

How has the beauty industry changed since you first started your career?

Botox was not even legal as a cosmetic product when I started in the beauty industry. Facebook , Instagram and other social media sites are contributing to small brand success.

Tell us about Frownies (patches), what are they and how do they work?

Frownies Facial Patches Forehead and Between Eyes addresses the physical cause of facial wrinkles such as horizontal lines on the forehead and vertical lines between the eyes (sometimes called elevens). Facial Patches work at night to smooth and lift skin wrinkles and creases.

Frownies Facial Patches for the Corners of the Eyes and Corners of the Mouth assist to soften and smooth the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth (called smile lines) and corners of eyes (called crow’s feet). Designed to provide lasting results with continued use.

You also have a natural and organic skin care line, how important is clean beauty to you?

I (Kat Wright President) am a Natropath and have a lifestyle commitment of over 40 years, to clean living and the promotion of clean living.

There is an awful lot of choice when it comes to skincare, we are on a quest to determine whether a higher price tag always means an superior product – what is your view?

Higher price means a bigger margin for the company. Some ingredients are very expensive but they usually come from a formulator and include chemical ingredients. Fancy packaging costs more too and the consumer often purchases the package, not the product. Frownies Skin Care is as clean as it gets but we take a smaller margin and pass the discount on to the consumer. Because of our community that uses the Facial Patches we have a market that we support with price, quality and effective products.

You are a big promoter of natural anti-ageing techniques (as are we!) have you ever tried face yoga?

I love face yoga and have practiced it with Eva Pearl the original in London for over 20 years.

Aside from Frownies, can you share with us your top tips for maintaining a youthful appearance?

Have a practice of meditation, drinking filtered water, eating fresh plant based clean foods, and exercise daily.

I have 5 biological children and 6 grandchildren. I am 65 and do yoga every day, sometimes twice a day.
