Fascia – what is it and why it can affect our appearance
Fascia is a specialised system in our body that looks similar to a spider’s web. Fascia is very densely woven, covering and interpenetrates every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein, as well as, all of our internal organs including the heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord.
The most interesting aspect of the fascial system is that it is not just a system of separate coverings. It is actually one continuous structure that exists from head to toe without interruption. In this way you can begin to see that each part of the entire body is connected to every other part by the fascia, like the yarn in a jumper.
If fascia is restricted, it can cause pain as well as allowing our faces to hold deeper wrinkles until it we release it.
Fascial restrictions can be caused by:
➡️Trauma
➡️Inflammation
➡️Surgical procedures
➡️Repetitive facial movements
➡️Fillers
➡️Injections
➡️Scars
➡️Other facial procedures
Fascial restriction can cause small muscle spasms and tension knots as well as restricting lymph flow – just like elsewhere in our bodies.
Learning how to correctly massage your face, either using your hands or using face tools is a great way to release fascia tension, boost blood flow and aid lymphatic drainage in order to keep your face looking AND FEELING it’s very best.
